Ellie came to me looking for a senior portrait session that captured all the facets of her personality. She wanted a lifelong and memorable experience that she would never forget! To create a session like this, we started with a session planing meeting at my studio where I got to connect with her and her mom. I asked her what her dream session looked like and we talked about an Editorial Vanity Fair inspired session in the studio, a "Carrie Bradshaw" look in downtown Sioux Falls and an epic dessert photoshoot in the Badlands of South Dakota.
We quickly realized that one day would not fit in all of the themes we were looking to and decided that a two part senior session was needed. The first part or day would start in Sioux Falls with the editorial studio session in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I just love how these turned out!
The next part of our senior session was a gorgeous "Carrie Bradshaw" inspired photoshoot in Downtown Sioux Falls! We had SO much fun at this part of our session.
This next part of our session was officially "Day 2" of Ellies senior session experience! Ellie wanted an epic photoshoot in the Badlands of South Dakota at golden hour. However, we couldn't drive 5 hours to this location and ignore the rest of what the Black Hills had to offer! So we drove up a little earlier and started with a beautiful daytime look in a quiet little valley. I was seriously getting "Sound of Music" vibes here! .
Afterwards, we drove to Lake Pactola, South Dakota's biggest lake tucked into the beautiful Black Hills for a "Nautical" inspired look! How gorgeous does the sun look here on Ellie?!
Lake Pactola is about an hour away from the Badlands so after we finished with this look, we hurried over to get to the gorgeous sunset that the Badlands had waiting for us. When Ellie said she wanted an "epic" photoshoot in the dessert, this is exactly what I had in mind. I really couldn't have imagined it better! From the dress, to the posing, to the gorgeous landscape and light... it all turned out so very perfect.
I am so thankful to Hillary and Ellie for choosing me as their senior photographer. Not only did we create amazing images from our sessions but an unforgettable experience that I hope Ellie is able to cherish forever-- just as much as I will! For me, the magic of portrait sessions is not the images alone but the idea that you can take someones dreams and wishes and bring them to life. Ellie, I wish you nothing but more magic and success in the next adventures that life has for you!
